IMPORTANT NOTE - The following is an archived page on hybridwalnut.com, which is no longer marketing trees for American Forestry Technology, AFT, SECHE-O, etc. However, hybridwalnut.com continues to offer the genetically superior timber trees (including the Purdue-source grafted black walnut trees and their superior seedlings) and other quality landscape trees, which are now available for purchase online. We will be happy to send you printed material for our online products if you submit this form. The hybridwalnut.com archived pages contain probably the most complete collection available of the technical aspects of successfully growing veneer grade timber, collected by yours truly over the course of many years. These technical guidelines remains relatively constant, but the marketing information on the archived pages is out-of-date. Therefore, if you find this page to be of interest, I suggest you print it out or something because I do not intend to keep it live forever...

Big News!

Tuesday, January 15, 2002

We have all been concerned about SECHE-O's (formally, AFT or American Forestry Technology) recent decision to discontinue selling any of their genetically superior trees. This saddened me especially because of the long and fruitful relationship between Neidigh Hybrid Walnut and AFT; I was very concerned I would not find an alternate source of genetically improved hardwoods grafts and seedlings for my many customers, as well as my own plantations.

I am happy to announce that I have found an alternate supplier nursery for the Purdue-source, genetically superior black walnut trees, and we expect to be able to start taking orders for grafts and seedlings within the next few weeks.

Prices are still under negotiation, and because the new nursery is more centrally located and has a very well-established, mail order business we anticipate improved shipping arrangements for customers than what the old nursery ever offered. Dormant Purdue Number 1 seedlings are available for shipment now. The anticipated availability of the other trees is as follows:

  • Purdue Number 1 and Tippecanoe Number 1 black walnut grafts and seedlings this fall (fall 2002, dormant) or possibly even this spring (spring 2002, foliated)
  • Genetically Improved Trees (GIT, or in the case of black walnut, selections from the Purdue-source trees) may be available as early as spring 2003
  • Other GIT species and intercropping species may also be available spring 2003

So, please check back often. The new Order Form will be posted online as soon as the new Price List is determined.

Sincerely,

John L. Neidigh
