IMPORTANT NOTE - The following is an archived page on hybridwalnut.com, which is no longer marketing trees for American Forestry Technology, AFT, SECHE-O, etc. However, hybridwalnut.com continues to offer the genetically superior timber trees (including the Purdue-source grafted black walnut trees and their superior seedlings) and other quality landscape trees, which are now available for purchase online. We will be happy to send you printed material for our online products if you submit this form. The hybridwalnut.com archived pages contain probably the most complete collection available of the technical aspects of successfully growing veneer grade timber, collected by yours truly over the course of many years. These technical guidelines remains relatively constant, but the marketing information on the archived pages is out-of-date. Therefore, if you find this page to be of interest, I suggest you print it out or something because I do not intend to keep it live forever...

Two genetically superior black walnut plantations:
IntroductionThere has never before been the opportunity to plant black walnut plantations (of virtually any size) that consist entirely of trees that all have the potential of producing veneer-grade logs. Production of these types of logs has historically required extensive corrective pruning and thinning of populations over the course of approximately 50 to 75 years. This is no longer the case because our six new Successor GST selections and the patented black walnut trees have "perfectly straight" form and reach harvestable size in about half that time. Until 1995, our grafted trees' scion wood came from two of the patented trees, Purdue Number One and Tippecanoe Number One. However, we're now grafting trees that are actually better than the patented trees because the scion wood comes from superior second and third generation genetically superior seedlings grown from the patented trees and other selected genetically superior black walnut trees. This has resulted in the new Successor GST Family (i.e., Genetically Superior Trees) of black walnut cultivars. If you are thinking about planting trees, order them now before you forfeit another year's growth. Now is a perfect time to place your order. Because of the strong demand for grafted trees, dormant tree orders should be placed well before the grafting season ends in the preceeding Spring (usually sometime in May) before the planned planting date. However, foliated grafts and dormant seedlings are readily available. A 25% deposit is required to place an order (except for orders of $100.00 or less, which must be paid in full). To place an order, you can review the Products and Ordering page and use the online Price List and printable Order Form, call me at Best Wishes, John L. Neidigh |
